Back to the souvineer shops where I can actually get something today. We have a nice collection of magnets. And of course Justin keeps adding to his beer bottle opener collection. I'm not sure how many bottles he thinks he can open at once to need that many! We went back to a specific restaurant because of their dessert. Unfortunately by the time we finished lunch, there was no room for the sweet delights I'd been eyeing up :( Hopefully there'll be something in St Goar.
The trip down the Rhine River showed off many many castles.

And this is the statue of Loreley on the opposite side of the river from St Goar

After getting off the boat we got our instructions out to work out where our hotel was. I had written down instructions from the train station, not the boat dock. After a little arguing (as usual) we turned around to find we were standing in front of it on the other side of the road. Our host was a very helpful man who even carried my bag up two flights of stairs (we were staying on the second floor and there was no elevator, so I can see why he offered). He asked if we had plans and so he proceeded to explain a suggested itinerary of a visit to the castle at St Goar, and a visit to Braubach and Boppard. This is our hotel, room and view from our hotel:

We are the little balcony on the second floor. The enclosed area at the front of the hotel is where we have breakfast, overlooking the Rhine River.

Yes that is a castle in the background.
We started our visit in St Goar with a leisurely walk around the town. Even managed to stumble across a school. Of all place to find one; in the middle of 'nowhere'. There were more residences here than Rudesheim. Our hotelier is very helpful, telling us what we can do, what boats to catch what there is to do at a couple of towns up the river. Our leisure stop will now be just as busy as everywhere else.

The largest free standing cuckoo clock in the world.

Steins are handmade here, some of crystal. I wouldn't let Justin buy one for NZ$400. (and it was tiny)

I even managed to find a school! Trust me.

Cute little house.

I'm glad this wasn't the Titanic! (see below)
We were recommended an Italian restaurant and a German restaurant for tea, as well as a gellateria (ice-cream shop) by our friendly host. We decided to go Italian since we had just had a German meal the night before. We couldn't work out if they were speaking German with an Italian accent, or Italian with a German accent. In the end we decided the chef was Italian and the woman was German.
Nice early night for me.
On another note, I was 100 years ago today that the Titanic boat sank. That explains why it has been released again in 3D.
